The Appalachian Mountains
either begin or end in north Georgia depending on your point of
reference. While this southernmost portion does not hold the higher
peaks found further north, these are still the beginning of the
a great range which spans the east coast. These are the mountains
which open the door and introduce the great
riding which starts here and continues throughout the Appalachian
chain and you will not be disappointed with the roads that are found
here. I've identified the best of these roads,
some which are well known and others which
are rarely discovered. I systematically went through every
road across north Georgia and selected the best with a thoroughness
I've not seen elsewhere. No other map details
as many great roads as this one.
More
than 25 routes are described some of which consist of several roads.
The best routes are highlighted in red and though no specific
loop rides are identified, many of these roads intersect and the
options to make loops are many and easy to
identify. Good connector roads which are highlighted in blue
- these roads almost made the best of the best grade, but either
lacked the scenery of the best rides or the challenging and fun
curves and turns of a great road. These blue roads are roads I recommend
over more traveled main arteries, good options
when weekend or holiday traffic clogs the main roads, and
great ways to link together the best (red) roads and make short
cuts between them, detour around towns, and avoid traffic.
It is truly the most comprehensive and detailed compilation of motorcycle
routes in North Georgia. The roads are bold and the road
numbers and names large so they can be easily read at a glance and
useful when navigating from a tank bag map pocket.
Scope:
This map covers
all the great roads roads west of US 441,
and all the best roads east of US 515,
exploring the heart of the most mountainous area in the Peach State.
It extends
across the border into North Carolina, and clips small sections
of Tennessee and South Carolina. Nearly 200 miles of the best (red)
roads are highlighted, and another 75 miles of good connector (blue)
roads are shown.
