that lead you away from the congestion
The
Black Hills arise in the midst of the prairie like an island
filled with wondrous granite rock formations and green forests.
Remote and isolated, a wealth of history and natural beauty are
found here.
It's most notable location to motorcyclists is the small town of
Sturgis which hosts tens
of thousands of bikers each summer who come to carry on the
rally started by outlaw motorcycle gangs years past, though they
were hardly the first outlaws to frequent the area.
The most
famous attraction,
the National Memorial at Mt.
Rushmore, draws tourists from far and wide. It occupies the
heart of the map and is surrounded by state and national parks,
scenic drives, and great protected wild areas. This is the home
where the buffalo roam, and the deer
and the antelope play, all of
which you're likely to see in abundance.
Rich in history, the
towns of Deadwood,
Custer, Lead,
and Hot
Springs all tell of a historical past, some with roots in prehistoric
times. There is something here to satisfy
most any interest.
I've searched out the
best of the back roads, rides which get you
off the main drag and into the country away from the traffic
and congestion. Ride the canyons, see the
open prairies, and marvel at the spectacular rock formations
of the
Needles, the Badlands,
and Devil's Tower.
