Description of area:
This map covers three sections of the forested regions on the south side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, an area known as "The Land of the Waterfalls". One side of the map covers the region that includes Bryson City, Franklin, Highlands, and Cashiers, NC. The other side of the map shows the forest roads in the Pisgah Nationl Forest south of the Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as roads near the DuPont State Recreational Forest south of Brevard, NC. Riding in these areas is on maintained forest service roads which explore the wilds of the extensive mountain woodlands in the area. With rare exceptions, most of this unpaved riding is fairly easy.
Many of these roads connect to some of the best paved roads in the region making the riding outstanding wether you are on or off the pavement. There are numerous waterfalls to visit. Towns and gas are never far. A lot of the back roads trace the courses of mountain streams and cascades.
